Steve Creitz, Illustrator, owner and sole artist of ProphecyArt.com
It all started when I was seventeen…
As a young artist growing up in the mountains of Colorado, I was invited to a Bible prophecy seminar that forever changed the way I viewed Scripture and altered the direction of my artistic future. Studying the books of Daniel and Revelation opened a realm of visual possibilities for my creative mind, as strange beasts, imposing statues, and mysterious timelines unfolded before me. One curious thing stood out to me at the time. All the artwork was very old. I wondered back then why new work was not being created to tell the story of the Bible to modern students.
My educational journey continued through art school at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, then on to the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, Connecticut, where I devoted my time to carefully studying portrait and landscape painting, knowing these skills would become the foundation of my career in biblical illustration.
I spent more than twenty years creating biblical illustrations for organizations including It Is Written International Ministries, SermonView, and Justinen Creative Group, producing hundreds of illustrations used in books, Bible studies, evangelistic media, and educational resources. During that time, I earned my Master of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
My master’s thesis project was to begin producing what had been lingering in my mind since I was seventeen: a comprehensive suite of prophecy-related images painted to the highest artistic standards, grounded in deep biblical and archaeological research, with a modern, timeless look. That thesis project became the foundation of ProphecyArt.com.
Every illustration begins with careful study of Scripture, historical sources, archaeological evidence, and the geography of the biblical world before the first sketch is ever drawn. I research period-appropriate clothing, architecture, customs, and design elements—including hieroglyphs, inscriptions, and decorative patterns—to ensure each scene is as historically faithful as possible. I even verify that the direction of the light is consistent with the assumed location and season of the year.
I now serve as Chair of the Department of Art and Design at Middle East University in Beirut, Lebanon. I continue expanding this collection while based in the Holy Land, with greater access to the landscapes, archaeological sites, and cultures reflected in Scripture.
As a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, I believe God has entrusted His people with sharing the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation—messages of warning, hope, and salvation for a world preparing to meet its Creator. My prayer is that the artwork in this collection will serve as a useful resource for those seeking to better understand Scripture and faithfully share its message with others.
