Understanding the Empires Prophecy Chart

The chart above may seem confusing, perhaps even intimidating at first. What you are seeing, however, is the final slide in a six-slide teaching sequence. Allow me to explain.

King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a multi-metal statue found in Daniel chapter 2 offers a panoramic view of history. It begins with Daniel’s time in exile in Babylon and follows the succession of Mediterranean world empires to the present day, culminating in God’s coming Kingdom. You can read the passage here: Daniel 2

In short, Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of this statue serves as a prophetic timeline of world history. It traces the succession of kingdoms from Babylon through Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and divided Rome, culminating in Christ’s kingdom, represented by the stone that destroys and replaces them all.

Daniel’s prophetic dream in chapter seven returns to the same sequence of kingdoms, this time with various startling beasts representing the successive kingdoms. When God intends a thing, he often repeats it to His prophets for emphasis. “In my vision in the night I looked, and suddenly the four winds of heaven were churning up the great sea. Then four great beasts came up out of the sea, each one different from the others:” Dan 7:2-3

What follows are fascinating descriptions of strange beasts. You can read all about it here…Daniel 7. The beasts described represent the same kingdoms introduced in the statue dream of Daniel 2. These symbolic beasts not only repeat the sequence of kingdoms introduced in Daniel 2, but also reveal additional details about their character, methods of conquest, divisions, and influence.

Also included in the example above are the effective dates of each succeeding empire. These dates do not correspond to when each empire began. Rather, they mark the period during which each empire conquered and absorbed the one before it, continuing until it was itself conquered by the next empire in succession.

The summary above is only an introduction to one of the Bible’s most remarkable prophecies. If you would like a thorough, verse-by-verse explanation, I recommend the following presentation by Pastor John Bradshaw of It Is Written.

I have created this chart to make teaching this comparison easier. The colored bands of the background match the metallic colors of the Daniel 2 statue and line up with each appropriate beast from chapter 7. The empty space in the middle is designed to give the user a place to put names and dates for these kingdoms in their desired language and format. Each row is subtly decorated with a faded relief, painting, or mosaic from the civilization it represents, providing historical context without distracting from the chart itself.

Every element of this chart—from the background imagery to its chronology and symbolism—was carefully researched to create a teaching resource that is both historically informed and visually intuitive.

The suite contains six HD slides that gradually build the prophecy one kingdom at a time. This allows presenters to reveal each empire as it is discussed, helping students focus on the current kingdom before moving to the next. The graphic below illustrates the complete teaching sequence.
